Mood status: Funny in the stomach from last night's dinner
Location: Waterfront Resort Livingstone,
Zambia
Can’t stay too long as I’m being a lone
explorer today. Decided to take a “break” from the group and do a few
activities on my own.
Yesterday saw us leaving Botswana and
taking a barge over the Zambezi River to Zambia. We arrived into Livingstone,
which to my rear end’s delight will be our base for the next 5 days. I’m
struggling with being on the bus a little bit, more so than the whole camping
thing not that it’s any easier. I’m absolutely filthy right now but I kind of
like it.
Livingstone is the holy grail of
adventure activities due to it’s claim of the Victoria Falls, one of the 7
natural wonders of the world. When we arrived at the campsite, the first thing
we were handed was a list of things to do – and it didn’t take me long to
decide to go out to Livingstone Island that afternoon. I was NOT going to go to
Zambia and miss the Devil’s Pool!
“Only a slippery, submerged lip of rock stands between the bathers and a
100m drop over the world's largest waterfall. The most daring visitors jump in
and allow themselves to be carried towards the falls at terrifying speed. They
are just inches from the edge when the rock lip brings them to a halt as the
raging waters of the Zambezi crash over the edge a few feet away.”
This afternoon I’ll be boarding a microlight plane – no walls, you and
the pilot, and some flimsy looking wings that are hand controlled - to see the
falls from above as well as doing the insane bungee jump (yes, the same one
where not too long ago the rope snapped on an Australian tourist). A few other
swings and glides are thrown into the package – simply cannot wait!
